NIT, IIIT or GFTI — what's the difference?

  • NIT

    National Institutes of Technology

    Centrally funded institutes across India. Around half of the seats go to home-state students, so your state matters a lot.

    Strong all-round choice with moderate fees.

  • IIIT

    Indian Institutes of Information Technology

    Focused on computer science, electronics and allied fields. Admission is generally all-India, with no home-state quota.

    Great if you're sure about CS or ECE.

  • GFTI

    Government Funded Technical Institutes

    Other government-funded institutes that take part in joint counselling. Quality and fees vary widely, so research each one.
